2009 Target Criteria
Nova Scotia Target Team
Selection Criteria, 2009
Canadian Target Championships Amos, QC from August 8 to August 15
The team selection criteria will be reviewed each year by the Executives of AANS. We will attempt to establish criteria that are both objective, for the basic selection, and flexible enough to consider external influences such as budget restrictions and considerations for the potential for individual medals. We also consider team contribution and contributions given to our sport when making the selection. In order for scores to be considered for selection, an athlete must a member of AANS and must declare his/her intention to be available for the team in writing by June 1st 2009. A copy of all signed and witness score cards must be sent to the Provincial Coach and must be received (or postmarked) on or before Aug 2, 2009 to be considered.
To select a team to the Nationals, we will use the average of the best three (3) FITA Stars, Canadian
FITAs and/or FCA registered FITAs, two of which must be shot in the current (2009) outdoor season. The other may be from a shoot after August 3, 2008. Example: Canadian Target Championships. They must be judged by qualified Officials. It is, however, the ultimate responsibility of the archer to ensure that his/her score is registered. A signed copy of the score card will be an acceptable proof of achievement.Team selection will use the chart from the FCA Canadian Championship record. The archers with the highest percentage of the Canadian Championship record in their respective divisions will be chosen. The following formula will be use (Archer's Average Score ÷ National record) x 100. Athletes wishing to participate in a category beyond their regulation age category must receive written permission from the Executive to be eligible for funding. The selection period starts January 1st, 2009 and extends to Aug 2rd, 2009.
Each team member will receive equal amount of funds from AANS to defray expenses with the exception of the archer with the highest percentage using the formula in the previous paragraph who will also receive a return economy airfare to the National or cash value if driving. All archers will be expected to disclose any other funding received from outside sources. If outside funding is received the FCA funding will not be made available.
In making the team selection, the AANS Executive will consider funding first, standing within individual shooting categories second. Team selection for the Fred Usher Memorial Cup team round will be left at the discretion of the Provincial Coach or AANS executive in his or her absence.
Minimum age for the National event is 16 years of age at the time of the tournament, unless the participant is accompanied by an unfunded parent or guardian. Archers between the ages of 16 to 18 of age will require a signed release form from their legal guardian. If extra funding is available from other sources, beyond our regular grant, specifically for a particular category, it may transcend these rules of selection. Local transportation for the team will be provided by the team's rented vehicle if/and when available, augmented if possible by archer's and volunteers' vehicles.
The following table shows the National record and the qualifying score. These scores were taken from the FCA internet site as of December 10/2008. The FCA site will be taken to be correct in case there are any errors in the table below.
