The restriction on the minimum mass (125 grain) of Instinctive division arrows has been removed.

Foot lifts

The use of foot lifts us recognized as included equipment.

Noise reduction devices

Equipment not permitted now explicitly identifies any electronic communication device, headsets or noise reduction devices in front of the waiting line.

Arrow wraps

Arrow wraps are permitted and will not be considered as part of diameter of the arrow as long they do not extend further than 22cm from the throat of the nock

Target

Sets scoring for matches

For matchplay, “sets” scoring system will be used instead of total arrow scores The athlete with the highest score of that end obtains 2 set points; in case of a tied score both athletes obtain 1 set point. As soon as an athlete reaches 4 set points (4 of 6 possible) in a 3 set match or 6 set points (6 of 10) possible in a 5 set match, he is declared winner and passes to the next round.

Timing changes

Time to come to the shooting line is reduced to 10 seconds.

80 seconds is allowed for a Mixed Team to shoot 4 arrows, 2 per athlete.

Time to shoot  1 arrow

20 seconds is the time allowed for an athlete to shoot 1 arrow (including tie-break) when shooting alternately in the Olympic and Compound Match Round matches.

40 seconds is allowed for a Mixed Team to shoot 2 arrows for tie-breaking.

Scorecard procedures

Signing a scorecard indicates that the athlete and the scorer agrees with the value of each arrow, the sum total, the number of 10’s and the number of X’s.

Organisers are not required to accept or record scorecards that are incomplete or with errors.

Organisers or officials are not required to verify the accuracy of any submitted scorecard.

Organisers or the officials noticing an error will correct such error and the result as corrected shall stand.

Critical tie breaking

Critical tie breaking procedure is now a single arrow shot for score (or one per team member), and if the score is the same, the closest to the centre wins.

BUT for the Compound Match Round

  • A single arrow shoot-off for score (maximum of 3 shoot-offs); if still tied after 3 shoot-offs the highest ranked athlete (team) wins.

Target faces

New  6-ring 80cm faces are introduced for outdoor at the short distances

  • The 80cm-6 ring face  (for multiple set-up with score zones 5-10); it  may be used at 50m, 40m and 30m The rings have the same dimensions as the 80cm faces, but with the 4 to 1 scoring zones removed. The lowest scoring zone is the light blue 5. The maximum distance above the ground of the centre of the upper face(s) will be 172cm and the minimum distance above the ground of the centre of the lower faces will be 90cm.

The 80cm-5 ring face (for multiple set-up with score zones 6-10) is still used for the shortest distance;

The Hit/Miss target face will be introduced in 2011 for the Compound Match Rounds.

No practice during equipment failure

Practice is explicitly prohibited during equipment failure.

Number of arrows at short distance

In the FITA outdoor target Round ends of 3 or 6 arrows may be shot at the shorter distances. [FCA note – 6 arrows at short distances is practical only when the mult-face targets are used, or there are two archers on the full-face target.]

Field

Practice is explicitly prohibited during equipment failure.

3D

3D target distance measurement

A 1 yard tolerance is described for the maximum distances from the shooting position to the target. This now allows for the use of range finders as long as they are within the tolerance specification.

3D target pictures

Target pictures with vital areas distinguishable are required at indoor as well as outdoor sanctioned events.

3D scoring

Scoring of 3D targets is now 11, 10, 8, 5 and miss.

3D misses

Parts of animals scored as “misses” are now lonely antlers (horns) and hoofs.

3D tie breaking

For non-critical ties):

  • greatest number of 11's;
  • greatest number of 10's;
  • after this, athletes still tied will be declared equal;

Shoot-offs are required only for “critical” ties for medals or entrance to the Grand Prix.

  • a single arrow shoot-off for score;
  • if there is still a tie score, the arrow closest to the center of the “X” will resolve the tie;
  • if still unresolved, successive single arrow shoot-offs, until the tie is resolved;

The time allowed for an athlete to shoot one arrow during tie-breaking shall be one minute.

3D conditional classes

The elimination or “conditional” equipments divisions for 3D Championships is modified to ensure retention of FITA 3D divisions. [FCA note - this includes Barebow (recurve unaided), Instinctive and Longbow]
